Math & Measuring

Geometry
In early childhood, young children learn to identify shapes and their attributes and solve mathematical situations using shapes. Infants and toddlers begin this work by exploring how differently shaped objects fit (or do not fit) together by manipulating toys as stacking cups. Older children will build pictures or designs with two- and three -dimensional shapes and create buildings or structures with shapes, such as building blocks.

Social Studies
Through social studies, children can explore and develop an understanding of their place within and relationship to family, community, environment, and the world. Social studies learning supports children’s emerging understanding of social rules. Children are also introduced to the different perspectives that they and others share and to life within their community.
